Anyda Marchant 1911-2006
Anyda Marchant, 94, a retired attorney, novelist and publisher died January 11 at home in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
A&M Books is the publisher of the 14 Sarah Aldridge novels and the new best-seller As I Lay Frying: A Rehoboth Beach Memoir by Fay Jacobs. Based in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, A&M Books was founded in 1995 by Anyda Marchant (who writes under the pen name Sarah Aldridge) and her life-long companion Muriel Crawford. Anyda and Muriel bring a long history of feminist and lesbian writing and publishing to A&M Books. The two founded the Naiad Press in the 1970's in order to publish the first Sarah Aldridge novel, The Latecomer. In the early 90's, Anyda and Muriel sold their interest in Naiad, which had grown into the largest lesbian/feminist publishing company in the country, and founded A&M Books to fill a void they saw in publishing women's literature.
